As of 31 July, we had 37 unallocated substance and maladministration cases, which is a slight decrease since last month. The oldest of these was received in July 2019. It is taking 12 months to allocate a case. However, our Investigator Support Officer is continuing to provide regular updates to all of the complainants in the queue.

We are taking steps to reduce the backlog and are currently recruiting for a new investigator. The post is available on the Civil Service Jobs website.

Please do not let our backlog put you off approaching the Ombudsman. The investigation team are continuing to work hard to reduce the backlog of cases. If you are thinking about making an application for a substance and maladministration investigation you need to make your application within the 6-week limit or the Ombudsman may not be able to review your case at all.
